The Adjustment Bureau (Matt Damon) Movie Review

There could be some *spoilers* below. Just so you know.

I have to admit it, despite my best intentions, I enjoyed The Adjustment Bureau. I was certain it was going to be terrible, primarily because of the premise that the hero ‘is defying Fate itself to be with the one he loves”, or whatever.

I picked out this movie because it starred Matt Damon, first reason, and second, because it was in the Sci-Fi / Suspense of my video store. The fact is that it’s really a chick flick in disguise. The romance is really overpowering, but my girlfriend loved it and was all snuggly, so I can’t complain.

The story goes something like this. Matt Damon plays David Norris, a toothy politician in love with his career, who completely destroys his chances in a race for Senate for “the great state of New York”. On the night of the debacle, he meets a woman in the men’s bathroom, with whom he falls in love.

That’s when it gets weird. Some dudes from something called ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ do everything in their power to keep them apart. John Slattery, playing apparently the same role, with the same clothes, as he does on Mad Men, is part of that crew, as is Anthony Mackie, as is the scary and inimitable Terence Stamp. Matt Damon’s love interest, and co-star is played by the very flexible Emily Blunt, who learned contemporary dance just for that film, a role she fulfills quite well, I must say.

So there’s lots of running and kissing and professions of undying and eternal love, until Damon forces a confrontation with the Adjustment Bureau and its mysterious ‘Chairman’, where their fates will be determined.

I’ve said enough. If you’re a woman, chances are you’ll love this movie. If you’re a guy, well, you probably will, too, especially if you watch it with a woman.

My rating: 3 out of 5 stars

The Unborn (Odette Yustman) Movie Review

There may be spoilers in this review. You are forewarned.

The Unborn Poster starring Odette Yustman

The Unborn is a horror movie that came out in 2009. It stars Odette Yustman as Casey Beldon, a young woman of freshman college age, or thereabouts. It also stars Gary Oldman as Rabbi Sendak, a demon-fighting Jew that needed to be convinced, but determined to see this Jewish Exorcism all the way through.

Ok, seriously, I’m sure you’re already seeing a pattern, except I must admit that I’d never seen an exorcism from the Jewish angle. I didn’t even know such a thing existed. I’m still not sure it does, but I’m too tired to look into it.

The Unborn is horror film that has its redeeming qualities, besides the nearly-nude Odette Yustman scenes, which are in the Unrated Edition that I saw. It’s sad to say, but the movie relies a lot on cheap thrills to achieve its goal of scaring audiences. You get scared, of course, which I suppose is the point, but I always feel a little cheated when there isn’t a payout. Once you find out what the deal is about the little ghost boy that keeps showing up, the movie is no longer creepy. It just makes you jump occasionally, which I think I kind of lame.

Watch this movie if you like Odette Yustman (who now goes by the name Odette Anable), or if you’re a big fan of Gary Oldman. Even though he got top billing, he has a relatively minor role, and probably isn’t on screen for more than 10 or 15 minutes, top. The movie will succeed in scaring you momentarily, but won’t give you that feeling where you find it scary to fall asleep, unless you’re 12 years old.

My rating: 2 out of 5 stars.

Matt Damon and Michael Douglas, Together at Last!

Matt Damon and Michael Douglas will share the silver screen in HBO’s Liberace biopic, in which Matt will play Liberace’s younger live-in boyfriend and lover, Scott Thorson. Michael Douglas will play Liberace, of course, who died aged 67 of AIDS-related illness.

Of course, HBO means incredible production value, so we don’t have to worry on that account, and it will be interesting to see how these two manly manly-men impersonate, well, homosexuals.

In either case, it’ll be something to look out for, but don’t get to the edge of your seat just yet, as they’re only going to start filming in summer of 2012.

Matt Damon Narrates Women, War & Peace Documentary

TV, movie and voice actor Matt Damon lends his voice talent to the Women, War & Peace documentary, a five-part series that examines the role that women play, and what they often have to endure in conflict (read: war) zones around the world.

It features women from regions as diverse as Bosnia, Liberia and Afghanistan, and explores the various ways in which they come to terms with their ordeals, and what they have to go through to bring the perpetrators of crimes, often against humanity, to justice.

Check out the trailer. It’s obviously very powerful stuff, and PBS is known to make excellent documentaries. They have their slant, obviously, but as long as you know it when getting into it, then its fine.

Happy Feet Two Trailer with Matt Damon

It seems that Matt Damon will be acting the voice of Brill the Krill in George Miller’s animated family comedy Happy Feet Two, alongside such luminaries as Elijah Wood, Robin Williams – an old hand at animated comedies! – and many others. Check out the trailer!

Matt Damon, of course, had played the voice of Cale Tucker in Titan A.E, back in 2000. Matt has a really funny and distinctive voice, and its great to see him using it again in that way.
